I have been creating heartfelt sculptures for over twenty years. My inspiration comes from the depths of my mind and the stone’s message to me. I start the creative process by feeling something from within. I nurture this subtle thought until it births into consciousness by sketching.
Once I have an idea formulated in a sketch, I develop a 3D sketch (maquette) by carving either plaster or soft brick. At this stage, I use the maquette to scale up for the final sculptured form. In blessed life, we start with a rough block of potential. As life goes by we make choices. These choices form us into who we become as a person.
For the most part, we cannot take back those choices. This is true with subtractive stone sculpture. The sculpture starts with a rough stone or a block of cut stone. This stone has the potential of great beauty and meaning. Once the sculptor begins carving choices are made and sculpture takes shape.
